Operant Dyad, in four slides

The Problem

A human and an AI system form a repeated, task-bound working relationship. Goals, constraints, and defect reports supplied in one exchange can be retained and shape later outputs. Most accounts of AI assistance describe the output, not the relationship that produced it, or what it leaves behind.

The Operant Dyad Contribution

Defines the Operant Dyad as this configured, task-bound relationship, and introduces four constructs: Relationship State (declared vs. inferred), Truxion (recurring misalignment cost), the Portable Operant Packet (proposed continuity representation), and three non-exhaustive structural failures — Lock-In, Override, and Hidden Scaffolding.

How the Framework Works · Evidence Status

A conceptual derivation, positioned relative to adjacent work in human-AI interaction, teaming, coordination, authorship, and data portability — not a report of an empirical study.

Evidence status: Conceptual proposal and research agenda. A distinct, irreducible dyadic state has not been established; the program's carrier-localization work is testing whether the effect is explained by simpler, non-dyadic carriers.

Why It Matters · Limits · Open Questions

Naming the relationship makes it available for inspection: how it forms, what it retains, and where human authority can weaken. Preserved human authorship is the governing condition for a healthy Operant Dyad, not a feature presumed to exist in current systems.

Limits: not empirically validated; not a claim of exhaustive novelty; not legal advice; not a claim about machine consciousness or personhood. Open: whether the effect is dyadic (OD-INV-01 pre-pilot); Truxion and the Portable Operant Packet remain untested.
