The Consequence Revalidation lifecycle

This is the paper's own canonical lifecycle, stated three times in the text in this exact form.

The lifecycle

The four forms of dependency that trigger it

Necessary

The consequence could not have been sustained without the superseded state.

Contributory

The state materially affected the decision but was not its sole basis.

Incidental

The state was present but did not materially affect the outcome.

Indeterminate

Available evidence is insufficient to determine the state’s role.

Reading the map

Trigger is an entry condition to Dependency, not a separate pipeline. Propagation is part of Remedy and Closure: it carries a revalidation result to the locations where superseded state remains operative. The five operational groupings implement one single lifecycle; they do not replace it. A trivial clerical correction with no plausible connection to an operative consequence need not proceed past the trigger stage — not every event that followed chronologically requires revalidation, only continuing material dependency does.
